3. Collection and processing of personal data
In connection with client relationships and other involved persons, we collect and process personal data in particular to provide, document and bill our legal services professionally and in accordance with our contractual and legal obligations.
Where permitted and appropriate, we also process personal data for the following purposes:
- Processing enquiries and communicating with clients, prospective clients and business partners.
- Fulfilling legal and contractual obligations and establishing, exercising or defending legal claims. This may include contact and master data, information about roles and organisations, publicly available background information, matter details, counterparties and information required to identify potential conflicts of interest.
- Disclosure to service providers, processors, banks, insurers, suppliers and auxiliary persons, in particular retained lawyers or law firms in Switzerland and abroad, where required and permitted for our business activities.
- Providing information about services and developments at Bihrer Attorneys at Law Ltd. You may tell us at any time that you no longer wish to receive such information.
- Processing applications. In line with the published retention practice, application files are retained for three months after receipt and then deleted unless another agreement or legal obligation applies.
4. Data disclosure and international transfers
Personal data is disclosed to recipients outside Switzerland, the European Economic Area or the European Union only where the legal requirements are met, consent has been given, a legal or contractual obligation requires the transfer, or another permitted ground applies. Appropriate safeguards are used where required.
5. Retention
We process and retain personal data for as long as required to fulfil our contractual and legal obligations, for the purposes of the processing and under statutory retention and documentation requirements. Data is then deleted or anonymised unless an obligation or overriding interest requires continued retention.
6. Website, contact form and cookies
When this website is accessed, the browser automatically transmits technical information to the web server. This may include the IP address, date and time, requested page or file, amount of data transferred, referring website, browser, operating system and access provider. This data may be processed temporarily in server and security logs to deliver the website, maintain system security, analyse errors and prevent misuse.
Through the contact form, we process your name, email address, optional telephone number, preferred language, topic or matter category, a short non-confidential description, optional preferred contact person and the path of the originating page. The application temporarily uses the IP address to limit abusive requests; it is not stored in the contact record. Form details are stored in the content management system to assess and process the enquiry. Please do not submit confidential documents or information before conflict clearance has been completed.
No marketing cookies are active on the public website. The privacy-minimal usage measurement described in section 7 is enabled only after separate approval. The protected administration area may use technically necessary cookies for authentication and security.
Links to external services, such as Google Maps for directions, connect to the relevant provider only after you select the link. The external provider’s privacy policy applies to its processing.
7. Anonymous usage measurement
When privacy-minimal usage measurement is enabled, we measure only views of public pages, clicks on defined calls to action, the start and successful completion of the contact form, and playback of approved videos. We process the cleaned page path without query parameters, the language and a broad device class and, only where approved, the referring website’s domain, campaign codes and target codes. We do not use cookies, local-storage identifiers, persistent identifiers or individual usage profiles for this purpose.
The IP address and user agent may be used transiently when an analytics request is received to limit abusive requests and identify obvious bots. They are not stored as analytics data; an in-memory key used for request limiting is discarded after no more than ten minutes. Anonymous raw events are retained for no more than seven days and daily aggregate counts for no more than 13 months.
The analytics data is hosted in Switzerland and is not disclosed internationally. When Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control is enabled, the website sends no analytics events. Questions and requests concerning this processing may be sent to info@bihrerlaw.ch.
8. Your rights
Where provided by the data protection law applicable to you, you may request information about the personal data processed about you, its source and recipients and the purpose of processing. Subject to the legal requirements, you may also have rights to rectification, deletion, restriction or objection and, where the FADP applies, to receive or transfer certain personal data.
You may withdraw consent at any time with effect for the future. An informal notice to info@bihrerlaw.ch is sufficient.
These rights may be subject to legal restrictions and may impair or prevent the provision of our services. You may enforce your claims in court or lodge a complaint with the competent data protection authority.
9. Changes
We may update this privacy policy if our data processing or the legal framework changes. The version published on this website is the applicable version.
